Most of us work from home and work alone. It has a cost. Gallup's 2024 global workplace study found that 25% of fully remote employees felt lonely for much of the previous day.On-site, it was 16%.

Working alongside others has an upside. University of Michigan researchers found that freelancers, remote workers and independent professionals in coworking spaces scored close to 6 out of 7 on thriving at work, at least a point above employees in regular offices.
